SPARKS, Nev., June 11, 2013 – The United States Army’s Program Office for Electronic Warfare and Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) celebrated the final delivery of over 3,000 “Baldr” units due under the Army’s Individual Counter Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronics Warfare (ICREW) program at SNC’s production facility in Sparks, Nev.
SNC’s Electronic Warfare and Range Instrumentation business area designed, developed and manufactured the cost-effective Baldr systems and is the industry leader in the Dismounted Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) Electronic Warfare (CREW) market. Soldiers in theatre wear the 8.9 pound Baldr system providing an effective zone of individual protection against RCIED during ground operations. The Army named the ICREW “Baldr” systems after the son of Odin, the God of Light, in ancient Norse mythology.

John Myers, SNC production manager, was recognized as the top individual contributor to the successful and timely completion of the ICREW program contract. SNC teammates Microboard Processing, Inc., and Aethercomm, Inc., were recognized as the top suppliers contributing to the overall success of the program.
The U.S. Army launched the ICREW program in 2012 based on an urgent need from U.S. forces serving overseas for ultra-light RCIED protection for individual soldiers. After a rigorous competitive evaluation process, the U.S. Army Contracting Command awarded SNC a $56.5 million contract to manufacture thousands ICREW systems. The contract was effective on October 16, 2012. SNC made on-time delivery of this huge quantity of systems by May 2013 – in just eight months.
