It’s Hire a Veteran Day! Meet Josh, a Talent Acquisition Partner & U.S. Army Veteran

SNC Employee, Josh CJuly 25, 2022

Each year, brave men and women from the military service return to civilian life. National Hire a Veteran Day highlights the value of hiring a veteran and reminds job seekers and employers alike that veterans’ experience and dedication can breathe new life into the workforce.

As of 2020, there were more than 8.9 million veterans in the labor force and at SNC, around 30% of our employees have served in the armed forces. We are proud to see our veterans thrive both professionally and personally.

Josh, a Talent Acquisition Partner and U.S. Army veteran, shares why it’s important to hire veterans and what is means to be a veteran as SNC.

Please tell us what you did in the military.

I served for a total of 24 years in the United States Army. I was a tanker and a mechanic for eight years and for the next 16 years, I served in various positions for U.S. Army Recruiting Command including Talent Acquisition Manger, Talent Development & Training Manager, Director of Talent Management and Regional Director - Talent Acquisition.

What brought you to SNC?

After about a year of retirement from the Army, I started looking at companies that supported the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). During my research, I came across SNC and applied. I will be celebrating one year of service in August.

What is your job at SNC and why do you enjoy it?

I work in the Talent Acquisition department and I’m responsible for supporting a variety of areas in the hiring process including conversions, contingent labor and the operations vertical for the ISR, Aviation & Security (IAS) business area. With my experience of retiring from the military and entering the civilian workforce, I can relate with the veteran candidates who may be experiencing something similar.

What does it mean to you to be a veteran and have the opportunity to hire other veterans?

Being a veteran means that you are a part of history; something bigger than yourself. Having the opportunity to work alongside other likeminded people is great. Also, having retired from military service before entering the civilian workforce gives me valuable insight and the ability to relate to with other veteran or Guard hiring candidates to create a positive hiring process.

Why do you think it’s important to hire veterans?

It’s important to hire veterans, not only because I am one but because they have values that I believe in to my core - honor, integrity and loyalty. Veterans are a proven asset and have soft skills that many traditional candidates do not have.

What does it mean to you that 30% of SNC employees are veterans?

It means a great deal to me. The fact that such a large percentage of the workforce at SNC consists of former service members shows the tireless work put in by so many to not only attract top talent but also retain top talent. It also shows me that our company sees the value in veterans as much as I do and it’s comforting to be a part of that.
