Electromagnetic Vibro-Tactile Stimulation System

The Electromagnetic Vibro-Tactile Stimulation (EVTS) system provides an effective way to convey tactile/force feedback via vibrational stimulation to the skin surface. The EVTS system has been incorporated into a glove for feedback to the hands (see the picture below); however the potential for its application to other skin surfaces exists. The glove shown in the picture has 12 stimulation devices. Each device has four parameters that can be varied to provide information to the user.  
 

Primary applications for the EVTS system include virtual reality and telerobotics. In both applications the EVTS system provides intuitive tactile feedback that dramatically increases the user’s situational awareness, resulting in increased performance, lower operator fatigue, and increased safety.
