MECHANICAL SHOCK: The purpose of mechanical shock is to determine the suitability of the devices for use in electronic equipment which may be subjected to moderately severe shocks as a result of suddenly applied forces or abrupt changes in motion produced by rocket stage separation, faring jettison, rough handling, transportation, or other field operations. Mechanical shock testing may include an assessment of the overall materiel system integrity for safety purposes as well as provide a degree of confidence that hardware can physically and functionally withstand the relatively infrequent, non-repetitive shocks that may be encountered during the useful-life of the product.
