FIRE DETECTION AND SUPPRESSION The Fire Detection and Suppression (FDS) system detects fire, alerts crew and systems of fire conditions, and provides a means for the crew and/or system of extinguishing the fire. The FDS has the ability to utilize three different fire detection technologies. The first is an optical particulate smoke detector, the second by means of contact temperature sensing, and third by means of non-contact temperature sensing. The FDS also provides an audible, visual, and electronic indication of detected fire conditions, to ensure proper crew and ground notification . The FDS provides a means of quick and safe fire suppression, consisting of portable breathing devices and fire extinguishers.
